Knitting gauge
Needle Sizes & Gauge for CamijoKnits’ Bases
When choosing yarn, needle size and gauge are crucial for the finished result. Here is a guide to my bases and their recommended gauge:
🔹 Lace weight – Perfect as a companion thread, but can also be knitted alone. Needle 2-3 mm gives a light and airy structure. Gauge: approx. 28-36 sts per 10 cm depending on pattern and project.
🔹 Fingering weight – Ideal for socks, shawls, and lightweight sweaters. Needle 2.5-3.5 mm depending on desired density. Gauge: 23-32 sts per 10 cm.
🔹 DK (Double Knit) – Good balance between lightness and warmth. Use needle 3.5-4.5 mm, depending on whether you want a tight or more airy knit. Gauge: 20-24 sts per 10 cm.
🔹 Worsted weight – Perfect for cozy sweaters and accessories. Knitted on needle 4.5-5.5 mm, with a typical gauge of 16-20 sts per 10 cm.
🔹 Bulky weight – Thick, warm, and quick knit for chunky sweaters and accessories. Recommended needle size 6-10 mm. Gauge: 10-16 sts per 10 cm.
Remember that gauge always depends on the individual knitter – make a gauge swatch for the best result! 😊✨
